Mother Tongue and Swedish as a Second Language

Mother Tongue
Children can attend mother tongue classes in a compulsory school given there are at least five children within Vellinge municipality applying for classes teaching the same language. Furthermore, the children need to meet two additional criteria; there is at least one parent using the mother tongue and the child actively speaks the mother tongue at home.
Primarily the mother tongue classes takes place in connection to the general education. However, they may also be given at another school.
In upper secondary school mother tongue classes may be chosen as an individual course.
Swedish as a Second Language
Teaching Swedish as a second language is an opportunity given to pupils that lack basic knowledge of the Swedish language and whose mother tongue is not Swedish. It is executed during regular school hours.
